Nobody will stop you. The recipe card is on the fridge; the bulb tells you what's next if you're stuck. Every hint is counted.

The oven doesn't wait, but this does.

Soft and chewy. Makes about 4 dozen; one sheet of 12 is plenty.

Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
In the small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In the large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar with the mixer for about 1 minute until fluffy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla until smooth.
Stir in the flour mixture just until blended. Do not overmix.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough about 2 inches apart onto the baking sheet.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges are light brown and the centres still soft.
Cool on the pan for 2 minutes, then move to the wire rack.
